Chief Elections Officer Warns Unconfirmed Voters Risk Removal from Voters List

The Electoral Office is urging eligible voters to complete the voter confirmation process well before the October 15, 2026 deadline, warning that individuals who fail to confirm their status could have their names removed from the voters list and become ineligible to participate in future general elections.

Chief Elections Officer Anthea Joseph said the voter confirmation exercise, which began on October 15, 2025, has entered its final three months, leaving approximately 90 days for eligible electors to complete the process.

As we enter the final quarter of the voter confirmation period, the Electoral Office is reminding all eligible electors that time is running out to get confirmed,” Joseph said.

She stressed that failure to complete the confirmation process before the deadline carries significant consequences under the law.

It is important to remember that if you are not confirmed by the end of the confirmation period, your name will not remain on the voters list. This means you will not be eligible to vote in village council elections or general elections until your status is restored under the law,” she explained.

Joseph also encouraged electors not to wait until the final weeks before submitting their applications. She noted that every application must undergo a verification process before it can be approved, making early submission essential to avoid delays.

To complete the confirmation process, applicants must present a valid government-issued identification card together with a witness from their polling district. Persons without a valid government ID may instead submit an affidavit signed by a Justice of the Peace, Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths, accompanied by a passport-sized photograph and a birth certificate.

The Chief Elections Officer revealed that, as of this week, 20,454 persons have submitted applications for voter confirmation, while 19,007 have already been approved. In addition, 1,735 new voter registration applications have been received, of which 1,489 have been approved.

Joseph said the Electoral Office expects a surge in applications as the deadline approaches and urged eligible voters to avoid the anticipated rush.

“Take about 30 minutes out of your day and secure your opportunity to exercise one of the most important democratic rights,” she said.

The Electoral Office is continuing its public awareness campaign across the country and is encouraging all eligible electors who have not yet completed the confirmation process to do so as early as possible to ensure they remain eligible to vote in future elections.
