Electoral Office Dismisses Allegations of Excluded Voters

The Electoral Office has rejected claims that certain communities are being excluded from the ongoing voter confirmation process, stressing that every effort is being made to ensure access for eligible citizens across Dominica.

Chief Elections Officer Anthea Joseph addressed the concerns during a recent update, stating that the office has implemented multiple confirmation centres and outreach efforts to reach voters in all 21 constituencies across Dominica. She said allegations suggesting that communities are being left out are inaccurate and risk creating unnecessary confusion among the public.

Joseph emphasised that the electoral authorities remain committed to transparency and fairness in the verification exercise, which is part of the broader process to strengthen the integrity of the electoral system.“We have tried our best, and we have tried to accommodate every person and every inquiry that we have received at the Electoral Office,” Joseph stated while responding to the criticisms.

According to the Chief Elections Officer, the Electoral Office has also deployed mobile confirmation kits to reach residents who may live far from the designated centres or who are unable to travel due to health or mobility challenges.

We have used the mobile kits to accommodate some communities who feel that they are too far from the confirmation center,” she explained.

Joseph further noted that the mobile teams operate on scheduled visits to different communities and often prioritise vulnerable individuals who cannot physically attend the confirmation centres. Residents are encouraged to contact the Electoral Office if they have relatives or neighbours who require assistance through the mobile system. Advance notices are also issued so that communities are aware of when mobile verification teams will visit their areas.

The Electoral Office has urged the public to rely on official updates and avoid spreading unverified information about the confirmation process, noting that misinformation could undermine confidence in the electoral system.
