The Dominica Cycling Association will introduce a new race route this weekend as riders prepare to compete in the sixth event of the 2026 cycling season.
The race, scheduled for Sunday, will cover approximately 40 miles and will take competitors from near the Woodbridge Bay Port to Gloucester in the heights of Layou Park before returning along the same route twice.
Association President Ronald Charles said the organization selected the course to provide cyclists with a fresh challenge while testing their endurance over varying terrain.
“This is the first time we have chosen that route,” Charles said, noting that riders will use the Layou Bridge area as the turning point before returning to Woodbridge Bay.
He described the course as demanding because of its hills and changing elevations, adding that several of Dominica’s leading cyclists are expected to compete.
Among those anticipated to participate are Ross Semper and Stephan Carbon, who have been preparing for the event through regular training.
Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, with the race scheduled to get underway at 9:00 a.m.
The association is advising motorists travelling between Woodbridge Bay and Layou to exercise caution during the event and remain alert for cyclists using the roadway.
Charles appealed to drivers to be patient while the competition is in progress, noting that the cooperation of the public is important to ensuring the safety of both riders and motorists.
The sixth race forms part of the Dominica Cycling Association’s ongoing season calendar as competitors continue to accumulate points and prepare for the remaining events of the year.
