The Government of Dominica has signed a new cooperation agreement with the People’s Republic of China aimed at boosting the island’s agricultural sector through the provision of key farming materials and technical support. The official signing on Friday, 18th July 2025, reflected the deep relationship between the two nations and their mutual goals of food security and advancement.
Present at the head table were Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Minister for Agriculture Roland Royer, and Chinese Ambassador H.E. Lin Xianjiang. All three took part in the formal signing of the agreement, which signals the continuation of China’s ongoing assistance under its Agricultural Technical Cooperation Project.
In his address, Prime Minister Skerrit emphasized the value of Dominica’s partnership with China, noting that the latest initiative aligns with the island’s broader vision to transform agriculture through sustainability and resilience. He acknowledged the impact of climate change and global supply challenges and welcomed the material support, which includes tools, greenhouse equipment, and other resources to benefit Dominican farmers.
Minister Royer described the donation as timely and essential, highlighting that it complements the government’s goal to reduce the import bill and strengthen local food systems. He called on farmers to make full use of the inputs and reiterated that the Ministry of Agriculture remains committed to providing the necessary technical support.
Ambassador Lin praised Dominica’s progress in revitalizing its agricultural base and reaffirmed China’s continued commitment to supporting food production and rural livelihoods. He said the two countries’ cooperation has yielded measurable benefits and expressed confidence that the new phase of assistance will further enhance productivity and knowledge-sharing.
This agreement is part of the wider China-Dominica agricultural cooperation, which began over a decade ago and includes training programs, demonstration farms, and material assistance. The signing comes as Dominica intensifies efforts to diversify its economy and prioritize self-reliance in food supply.
