Three Primary Schools Enter Final Phase of Construction

Three major primary school projects in Dominica are entering their final stages of construction, marking a significant step in the country’s ongoing efforts to modernize its education infrastructure.
The facilities, funded through support from the People’s Republic of China, are expected to replace temporary learning arrangements that have been in place for several years, particularly following damage to school buildings during past weather events.
Minister for Education Octavia Alfred confirmed that the construction of the schools is progressing on schedule, with structural works largely complete and final finishing activities underway. She noted that the buildings have been designed to meet high construction standards, ensuring durability and long-term use.
According to the Minister, the transition from makeshift classroom environments to fully equipped, purpose-built facilities will significantly improve the quality of education delivery. The new schools are expected to provide a more conducive learning environment, supporting modern teaching methods and enhanced student engagement.
“These modern facilities will provide high-quality, permanent learning environments for students who have spent years attending classes in temporary villa locations,” Alfred stated, emphasizing the importance of the investment.
The projects form part of a broader national effort to strengthen the education sector by improving infrastructure and creating spaces that support both academic and social development.
Government officials also highlighted the importance of the partnership with China, noting that the scale of the investment represents a significant contribution to Dominica’s human resource development.
With completion now within reach, the new schools are expected to soon accommodate students in upgraded facilities designed to enhance both teaching and learning experiences across the island.
