Government Says No Basis for PDVSA or Drug Allegations

The Government of Dominica has firmly rejected claims circulating online that seek to link the country or its officials to drug trafficking or illicit dealings connected to PDVSA.

Speaking at yesterday’s press conference on January 5, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit described the allegations as false and irresponsible, stating that they have no factual basis and are intended to mislead the public. He said no Dominican official has been interviewed, questioned, or charged by foreign authorities in relation to drug trafficking or PDVSA.

The Prime Minister emphasised that Dominica operates within international law and maintains active cooperation with regional and global partners on security matters, including maritime surveillance and counter-narcotics efforts. He noted that such collaboration has been ongoing for years and remains transparent. Addressing references to past energy arrangements, Skerrit clarified that Dominica has not received fuel from Venezuela for more than seven years and currently sources fuel through commercial suppliers operating within established regulatory frameworks. He said attempts to revive old narratives are designed to create confusion at a sensitive time.

The Government also dismissed claims suggesting exposure to sanctions, stating there is no basis for punitive measures against Dominica. Skerrit said any assertion to the contrary ignores the country’s compliance record and its continued engagement with international institutions.

Officials urged the public to rely on verified information and cautioned against the spread of unsubstantiated content on social media.

The Government reiterated its commitment to transparency, cooperation with partners, and the protection of Dominica’s international reputation.
