Deux Branche

Deux Branche is an upland valley in Saint Andrew Parish, inland of Concord and the Pagua River on Dominica’s north-east coast. It sits at a watershed where mountain streams feed the Concord River, a long-used resource for residents of Concord, the Kalinago Territory and Marigot for recreation, river bathing, fishing and household water.

In recent years, Deux Branche has become nationally controversial as a source area for quarrying linked to the international airport and other large projects. Political parties, community groups and environmental advocates argue that heavy extraction is scarring the landscape, increasing sediment in the Pagua River and threatening parts of the Central Forest Reserve, which is protected under Dominica’s forestry and planning laws. They are calling for proper environmental impact assessments and full consultation with affected communities.
