West Coast Cooperative Credit Union Membership Surpasses 5,600

The West Coast Cooperative Credit Union has announced that its membership has grown to more than 5,600, highlighting another year of expansion despite ongoing economic challenges.

The achievement was revealed during the Credit Union’s 21st Annual General Meeting, held at the Salisbury Primary School under the theme, “Navigating Challenges, Delivering Results.” Officials said the institution continues to strengthen its financial position while expanding services and increasing its investment in community development.

President of the Board of Directors, Marie Louise Pierre-Louis, said the member-owned financial institution remained focused on serving its members throughout 2025, despite a changing financial environment and broader economic uncertainty.

Despite economic uncertainties and the evolving financial environment, your credit union remains focused on serving its members, strengthening its operations, supporting our communities and building a stronger institution for the future,” Pierre-Louis stated.

She reported that the credit union not only expanded its membership but also improved its financial performance while increasing support for education, healthcare, youth development and community initiatives.

According to Pierre-Louis, these accomplishments demonstrate both the resilience of the institution and the continued confidence that members place in the cooperative model.

Our success is measured not only by our financial performance. Every decision we make is guided by our commitment to cooperative values and our belief in people helping people,” she said.

The Annual General Meeting also recognized six farmers for their contribution to national development. Through a partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, the West Coast Cooperative Credit Union provided each recipient with irrigation kits to help improve agricultural production and strengthen food security.

General Manager Erickson Robinson explained that the initiative resulted from consultations with farmers, many of whom expressed a desire to increase production but required additional support to do so.

He said the irrigation systems would help farmers become more productive while reinforcing the credit union’s commitment to practical investments that benefit members and rural communities.

As the institution looks ahead, officials say they remain committed to expanding membership, improving services and maintaining the cooperative principles that have guided the organization for more than two decades. They expressed confidence that continued growth and prudent management will allow the credit union to deepen its contribution to the economic and social development of communities along Dominica’s west coast.
