UWP Leader Thompson Fontaine Appeals for Unity and Discipline

United Workers’ Party leader Dr. Thomson Fontaine is urging party supporters and members to remain calm, disciplined and focused amid recent public discussions surrounding the opposition party and its internal affairs.

In a national statement addressing growing speculation about tensions within the UWP, Fontaine said the country is at a critical stage and argued that the opposition must remain concentrated on solutions for Dominica rather than political distractions.

“My Dominican family and friends, I address you today in the wake of recent events circulating on both traditional and social media regarding the United Workers’ Party that I lead,” Fontaine stated.

The opposition leader acknowledged that differing views are part of democratic politics but warned against allowing division and misrepresentation to weaken the broader mission of political change and economic reform.

Fontaine said the UWP remains prepared to govern and is focused on what he described as restoring accountability, balance and purpose to national leadership.

He also extended what he described as an “olive branch” to party members: “True progress will require all of us, supporters, critics and undecided citizens alike, to come together in the best interest of our country,” Fontaine added.

The UWP leader used the opportunity to again promote the party’s proposed “10 Pillars” development programme, which he said focuses on agriculture, manufacturing, water commercialization, tax reform and reducing the cost of living.

“To our supporters, I urge calm, discipline and focus,” Fontaine said. “The strength of our movement lies not in noise, but in vision, credibility and unity.”

The UWP leader said the focus now should remain on economic policy, governance issues and presenting alternatives to voters and electoral reform in Dominica, rather than internal disputes.
