Public officers in Dominica are expected to receive a 3 percent salary increase beginning July 1, 2026, following the completion of negotiations between the government and the Public Service Union (PSU).
General Secretary of the PSU, Thomas Letang, confirmed that the increase forms part of the final year of the current triennium agreement covering public sector workers.
“We have negotiated and we have concluded salary negotiations,” Letang stated. “From 1st July, public officers will get a 3% salary increase.” According to Letang, the increase will apply for the period ending June 2027, after which negotiations are expected to begin for the next triennium covering 2027 to 2030.
He explained that the union intends to begin preparations for the next round of salary discussions immediately after its 13th Biennial Delegates Conference, stressing that delayed negotiations often make agreements more difficult to secure. “If there is one thing we want to do this time, it’s to make sure that we negotiate on time,” Letang said. “Because the longer you stay before negotiation is the more difficulty you encounter in negotiating.”
The announcement comes as public officers continue to face rising living costs linked to fuel prices, imported goods, transportation, and broader global economic pressures affecting small island developing states across the Caribbean.
Letang referenced those broader challenges while discussing the theme of this year’s PSU conference, “Investing in Ourselves, Organizing for Workers’ Rights and Benefits.” “There are so many things going on in the world,” he said. “Wars, we have the effect of wars. Even in Dominica right now we are feeling the effect with the rising cost of petrol.”
The union also says it will report several achievements over the past two years during its delegates conference, including salary negotiations, upgrades of positions within the public service, commitments regarding pension increases, and the reinstatement of some workers whose employment had been terminated.
Close to 100 delegates are expected to attend the conference at the PSU headquarters, where members will review financial reports, executive reports, organizational progress, and future negotiation priorities for public sector employees across Dominica.
