Skerrit Talks about Constitutional Amendment; Tasks Lawyers to Uphold the Law

PM Roosevelt Skerrit has revealed that his administration is serious about constitutional amendment to reflect the current needs of the Dominican people. He said revising and updating the constitution will go a long way to improving good governance and ensuring better representation for the people.

He tasked legal practitioners and lawyers in the country to uphold the integrity of the law by living above standands and teaching it to the people. He noted that when people know their rights and obligations under the law, they are bound to be dutiful and law-abiding as patriotic citizens.

The DLP leader tasked lawyers with helping Dominicans to get familiar with the law so that the people can in turn teach it to their children. He said familiarity with the law is a requisite for living overboard in any country and that everyone in the country needs to know the fundamental requirements of the law most especially as they relate to everyday living.

Meanwhile, Justice Irving Andre has lauded the DFP administration under former Eugenia Charles’ government for the way the country’s constitution was designed for effective democracy. He praised the structure of the court system in the old government and related it to activities of the current DLP government under the Skerrit-led administration.
