Pre-election poll reveals UWP winning coming elections in 11 constituencies. The poll was conducted by The Caribbean Agency for Political Advancement (CAPA) in 12 constituencies of Dominica ahead of the December 6 general elections. The survey was conducted between November 2-16 on a population size that is 1.5% of registered voters in each of the 12 constituencies.

The overall aim of the survey is to have an idea of who and which party might win the coming elections. The 12 constituencies that were surveyed are La Plaine, Morne Jaune, Castle Bruce, Wesley, Roseau Valley, Roseau Central, Salybia, St. Joseph, Mahaut, Petite Savanne, Vielle Case and Marigot. These constituencies were chosen for the survey because of past election results and emerging trends in the current dispensation. Vieille Case and Marigot were included because DLP’s Roosevelt Skerrit and UWP’s Lennox Linton represent these areas.

Alex Bruno, managing director of CAPA, revealed that 34% of survey respondents are of the opinion that the incumbent DLP party will win the coming general elections. But when asked which party they will vote for at the coming election, 46% said they will vote for the UWP while 38% said they will vote the DLP and 18% said they will not vote for any party at all.

In the area of manifestoes, 47% said that UWP’s Linton has the best development plan for the country and 40% said the DLP has the best manifesto. Furthermore, 49% of the survey respondents want the DLP government to step down while 46% want them to continue to lead the country, and 5% remained neutral.

When asked which political party candidate they voted for in the last general elections in 2014, respondents in the CAPA survey said they voted the 37% UWP party, 35% said they voted the DLP party, and 28% did not answer the question. And to the question of which party has the best message when they contact people, 40% responded that it is Linton and 37% said it is Skerrit while 28% both Linton and Skerrit are impostors.

When asked if they will be voting at the December 6 general elections, 71% of the total respondents said they will vote, and 12% said they will never vote while 17% said they are not sure of what they will do. And when asked whether they believed in the need for electoral reforms as demanded by the opposition, 72% said they want reforms and 4% said there is no point for any reforms while 14% are not sure of what they want.

Acccording to Bruno, the CAPA survey has a error margin of +2.9% or -2.9%.
