About $2.4 Million to Be Paid to Police Officers for Off-Duty Days – Skerrit

More than $2.4 million will be disbursed to police officers by the end of May. According to PM Roosevelt Skerrit, the payment is for off-duty days that various police officers enjoyed across the Island. Skerrit said the $2.4 million was arrived at after consultation with the Police Welfare Association (PWA).

The Prime Minister said the money would have been paid out to deserving officers a long time ago, but no proper records existed to accurately determine the actual number of off-duty days granted to respective officers. He said there were no reliable records outside of the SSU to calculate the number of rest days granted to officers – especially in the out-districts – until the PWA offered their help.

“This is good news for the police and I want to commend the PWA for their professionalism in their engagement and coming to the resolution in the best interest of their membership,” he stated. “And so the amount will be in excess of $2.4 million.”

The national statesman made the disclosure at a recent press conference where several public servants had put in requests for money owed them by the government. He said that he is happy that the government can bring the issue to closure and bring smiles to the faces of police officers.
