Dominica experienced a significant surge in cruise tourism activity as six cruise vessels docked at the island’s ports over a two-day period, bringing more than 12,000 passengers and crew ashore and generating a noticeable boost in economic activity across several communities.
The ships called at ports in Roseau, Woodbridge Bay, and Cabrits National Park, allowing visitors to disperse across the island to experience tours, shopping, dining, and cultural activities. Taxi operators, tour guides, craft vendors, and small businesses reported strong demand as passengers explored popular attractions and town centres.
Tourism officials indicated that the combined passenger count for the two-day window stood at approximately 12,048, making it one of the busiest cruise periods so far this season. The arrival pattern reflects growing confidence among cruise lines in Dominica’s port infrastructure and shore-side offerings, particularly following continued investment in visitor facilities and destination management.
Vendors in Roseau and Portsmouth noted increased foot traffic, with many visitors opting for guided excursions to waterfalls, hot springs, heritage sites, and coastal communities, while others chose to explore urban shopping areas and local eateries. Transport providers also recorded higher-than-usual bookings, especially during peak morning and early afternoon hours.
The concentrated arrivals required coordinated port operations, including passenger handling, traffic management, and security, all of which were reported to have proceeded smoothly.
Authorities noted that the staggered docking schedules helped manage congestion while maximizing visitor movement across the island. Tourism planners view the successful handling of multiple ship calls within a short timeframe as an encouraging indicator for the remainder of the cruise season.
With additional calls scheduled in the coming months, the sector is expected to continue contributing steadily to employment, small business earnings, and overall economic activity.
