Irish Is Consultant on Community Policing & ASP Claude Weekes Is Coordinator
Retired superintendent of police, Ainsworth Irish, has been appointed as a consultant for community policing, and ASP Claude Weekes appointed as coordinator. This was revealed by Acting Police Chief Lincoln Corbette who said both appointees have provable experiences in community policing and safety.
ASP Weekes is replacing Inspector Pellam Jno Baptiste who has been transferred to the Dominica Air and Sea Port Authority (DASPA) as head of security, Corbette said.
The acting police chief said both Irish and Weekes will commence work shortly and that local communities will be safer for everyone with their direct inputs. He said the appointment of Irish and Weekes stems from the fact that the police authorities want to prioritize community safety and a reduction in crime rates across Dominica.
“As I said before, we don’t have an increase in crime but we want to see fewer crimes in the country so that is very important to us,” Corbette stated.
The police head used the opportunity to commiserate with the families of Corporal Ryan Shillingford and Constable Philbert Williams who lost their lives recently. He said the loss of the police officers leaves a great sadness in the hearts of everyone within the police force, and that all officers are bent on doing more to immortalize their memories and safeguard lives and property in the country.
