Dominica Makes Unprecedented 1,732-Kilogram Cocaine Seizure in Record Drug Bust

The Commonwealth of Dominica has executed the largest drug seizure in its history, with law enforcement officers intercepting 1,732 kilograms of cocaine, valued at approximately EC$46 million, during a high-profile operation conducted in September 2025.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Lincoln Corbette, speaking at a press briefing, confirmed the scale of the haul and described the investigation as intelligence-driven and operationally complex. The operation, which saw collaboration between the Dominica Police Force and the Regional Security System (RSS), led to the arrest of 24 individuals and the seizure of multiple firearms and large sums of cash, signaling the wide scope of the drug trafficking network involved. The cache of narcotics far surpasses any previous record on the island and emphasises how Dominica has increasingly become a trans-shipment point for large-scale drug operations in the Eastern Caribbean. In his remarks, ACP Corbette stressed that this was not merely a local victory but a regional one, stating that “this is 46 million dollars that will not be in the hands of criminals to cause damage and danger to our citizens.

Among the items seized alongside the drugs were two shotguns, one sub-machine gun, a nine-millimetre pistol, two Glock pistols, seven air rifles, and their associated ammunition. Cash in several currencies was also confiscated, including US $10,000, BDS $800, EUR €400, and EC$30,507, evidencing the international reach of the operation.

Government officials described the bust as a major breakthrough in the island’s fight against transnational organised crime. The Prime Minister announced that the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of enhanced intelligence-sharing, stronger regional cooperation, and improved law enforcement capacity. He also urged citizens to assist by reporting suspicious activities and emphasised that public safety remained a top priority.

Security analysts point out that the haul is equivalent to several years’ worth of drug flows through Dominica and could trigger ripple effects throughout criminal networks. The operation is expected to disrupt supply chains, reduce violence linked to the drug trade, and signal to traffickers that the island is no longer a soft target. Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to dismantle the remaining network, trace financial flows, and bring the arrested suspects to trial. The police confirmed that the drugs would be securely held as evidence and processed in accordance with legal procedures.

While the success is being lauded across government and civil society, officials stressed that the fight is far from over. They pointed to the need for sustained funding, training, and technology to keep pace with evolving criminal methods. Dominicans were reminded that vigilance, cooperation, and strong institutions remain critical to maintaining security gains.
