Construction Site Accident at Cable Car Project Claims Life of Mon Prosper Man
A construction site accident at the Cable Car Project in the Roseau Valley has claimed the life of a man from Morne Prosper, prompting investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The fatal accident occurred on Monday afternoon when a section of scaffolding reportedly collapsed at the project site, trapping the worker beneath the structure. Emergency responders were called to the scene, and the injured man was rushed to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Police have identified the deceased as Michael Lawrence of Morne Prosper. Reports indicate that he sustained multiple injuries during the collapse and later succumbed to those injuries while en route to the hospital.
The Cable Car Project, being developed in the Roseau Valley, is one of Dominica’s major tourism infrastructure initiatives and is expected to provide aerial access from the valley to Boiling Lake upon completion. The project remains under construction, with works continuing at several elevated points along the route.
Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the scaffolding failure and whether all required safety protocols were in place at the time of the incident. Officials are also expected to examine workplace safety standards and compliance at the construction site.
The incident has renewed attention on occupational safety in large-scale construction projects, particularly those involving elevated structures and complex engineering works. No further injuries were reported.
An official statement from the Dominica Cable Car Company is being sought as investigations continue.
