In 1961, the Portsmouth Library started in a small room with limited resources. By 1984, it relocated to a former daycare on Pownall Street, improving services. Overwhelmed by local school demands, it moved in 1999 to a new, larger World Bank-funded facility, offering extensive services and functioning as the regional library headquarters.
