Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), Dr. Thomson Fontaine, says the party remains on course to present candidates in all 21 constituencies as it prepares for Dominica’s next general election.
Speaking at the party’s latest candidate presentation, Fontaine said the UWP is steadily building a team that reflects a combination of youth, experience and professional competence.
The party last week introduced three additional candidates, bringing the total number publicly announced to six. Fontaine described the process as a deliberate and measured approach to assembling what he believes will be a strong team capable of serving the country.
“We promised you that we’ll be unveiling our candidates. Last time it was three, now three plus three, that is six out of 21. It is a nice, steady march towards revealing to the Dominican public 21 truthful, honest and committed Dominicans,” Fontaine said.
Fontaine highlighted the qualities of the newly introduced candidates, describing Wesley Constituency representative Jean Francois as a sincere individual committed to developing his constituency. He also praised Teacher Ernie for her connection with communities across the Castle Bruce area and said Roseau South candidate Martha Augustus had chosen to return home after studying overseas in order to serve the people of Dominica.
According to Fontaine, the party’s candidate selection process has focused on identifying individuals with strong community ties and a genuine commitment to public service.
The UWP leader said the continued rollout of candidates reflects the party’s readiness for the next general election and its intention to contest every constituency across the island. He maintained that the team being assembled is designed to offer voters a balanced mix of new perspectives, practical experience and dedication to national development.
