Valedictorian Akeisha Luke Inspires Class of 2026 to Keep Moving Forward

Goodwill Secondary School Valedictorian Akeisha Luke has reflected on the resilience and determination that carried her graduating class through five years of challenges, encouraging her fellow graduates to approach the future with confidence and purpose.

Luke delivered the valedictory address during the school’s 2026 graduation ceremony, held under the theme, “One Does Not Have to Be Great to Start, but One Does Have to Start to Be Great.” She described graduation as both the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, inviting her classmates to reflect on how far they had come together.

Addressing the graduating class, Luke recalled that their secondary school experience began under circumstances unlike those faced by many other students on the island. Without a permanent school building, the class attended lessons at different locations and on an afternoon schedule, yet continued to pursue their education with determination.

She explained that despite the disruptions, frequent relocations and unusual school hours, the class chose to remain focused on their goals rather than allowing difficult circumstances to define their future.

We continued even when the conditions were not perfect. It is because of this resilience, determination and willingness to press forward that we are able to share this celebration today,” Luke told the audience.

Luke encouraged her classmates to view graduation not as the end of their journey but as the foundation upon which they would continue building their lives. She urged them to embrace future opportunities with the same perseverance that had brought them to this milestone.

The ceremony also celebrated Luke’s outstanding achievements. In addition to being named Valedictorian of the Class of 2026, she received both the Student of the Year and Sportswoman of the Year awards in recognition of her academic excellence, leadership and athletic accomplishments.

School officials commended the graduating class for overcoming significant obstacles throughout their secondary education while maintaining their commitment to learning and personal growth. The ceremony marked an important milestone for the students, many of whom began their educational journey during a period of transition for the school.
