Traditour 2025 Sets Sail from Dominica for the First Time
The launch of Traditour 2025 took place today at Purple Turtle Beach in Dominica, marking the first time Dominica is hosting the official start of the traditional sailing race. Government officials, tourism stakeholders, and representatives from the Guadeloupe-based Traditour committee gathered to celebrate what was described as a major moment for Dominica’s cultural and maritime sectors.
Traditour is a multi-day regatta featuring traditional sailboats and celebrating inter-island Caribbean heritage, particularly the seafaring connection between Dominica and the French Antilles. The 2025 edition includes a lineup of activities from July 2–4 at Purple Turtle Beach, including cultural performances, local food, craft displays, and opportunities to interact with visiting crews.
The launch ceremony featured remarks from Dominican officials and Guadeloupe organizers who acknowledged the years of coordination leading up to this moment. Speakers emphasized the importance of cultural exchange, regional cooperation, and the revitalization of traditional sailing as a celebration of identity. The event was also recognized as an opportunity to strengthen tourism and build deeper community ties, especially in the north of the island.
Over 400 guests from Guadeloupe are expected to join the celebrations. Local artisans, performers, and vendors will participate in the three-day event, transforming Portsmouth into a festive hub of maritime culture. The hosting of the start of Traditour in Dominica was presented as a breakthrough in regional cooperation and cultural diplomacy.
Traditour vessels are set to depart for Guadeloupe on July 4, following the conclusion of the local activities. The event is expected to bring increased visibility to Dominica’s northern tourism product and will likely serve as a platform for more frequent collaboration with regional partners on maritime and cultural tourism.
With the launch now completed, anticipation is building for the full three-day celebration, which blends historical tradition with modern cultural exchange. The successful kickoff marks a promising start to what organizers hope will be an enduring partnership and a recurring presence of Traditour on Dominica’s cultural calendar.
