St. Joseph University Offers 50 Percent Tuition Reduction to Dominicans

St. Joseph University School of Medicine has introduced a scholarship programme that will provide a 50 percent reduction in tuition fees for Dominican students pursuing medical and nursing degrees, as the institution seeks to increase local and regional enrolment.

The announcement comes just days after the university celebrated the graduation of its first cohort of medical doctors, marking another milestone in the institution’s development since opening its doors in 2022.

Marketing Manager Calvia Timothy said the scholarship initiative was designed to make medical education more accessible to Dominican nationals while also attracting students from across the Caribbean.

Following our graduation, one of the things that we have done to encourage both local students and regional students to attend St. Joseph University is to provide what we call a scholarship programme,” Timothy said.

Under the programme, Dominican citizens enrolling in the university’s Doctor of Medicine programme or Bachelor of Science in Nursing will receive a 50 percent reduction in tuition fees. Applicants will be required to provide proof of Dominican citizenship, including documents such as a passport or birth certificate, to qualify for the concession.

The university has also extended financial assistance to students from across the Caribbean, offering 30 percent tuition reductions to CARICOM nationals enrolling in eligible programmes.

Timothy said prospective students interested in beginning studies during the September intake can already start the application process by visiting the university’s offices or accessing information through its website.

She noted that St. Joseph University is located in Adams Tower, on the third floor of the building that houses Dr. Curvin J. Ferreira’s office, where staff are available to assist applicants with admissions and programme information.

The scholarship programme forms part of the university’s broader effort to expand opportunities for Dominican and regional students while helping to develop a larger pool of healthcare professionals trained in the Caribbean.

St. Joseph University recently graduated its first four medical doctors, all Nigerian nationals, and says a growing number of Dominican students remain enrolled in its medical programmes, with additional graduates expected in the coming years.
