The Commonwealth of Dominica and the Republic of Indonesia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations, as President Sylvanie Burton officially received the credentials of Indonesia’s new Ambassador, Fikri Kassidi, at a ceremony held in Roseau. The presentation marks a continuation of bilateral engagement between the two nations, focusing on cooperation in climate resilience, education, agriculture, and cultural exchange.
Speaking during the credential ceremony, President Burton commended Indonesia’s leadership in global climate action and disaster preparedness, noting the shared priorities between both island nations.
She emphasized that Dominica’s vision as the world’s first climate resilient nation aligns with Indonesia’s international advocacy on sustainability and green growth.
President Burton expressed optimism that the partnership would lead to meaningful collaboration in several key areas. She highlighted renewable energy development, agricultural innovation, human resource training, and cultural diplomacy as sectors ripe for cooperation. “Dominica welcomes opportunities to work closely with Indonesia in the areas of education, agriculture, and renewable energy, as we continue to build a sustainable and resilient future for our people,” she said.
Ambassador Kassidi conveyed his government’s commitment to advancing South-South cooperation and pledged to promote closer relations through technical assistance, training exchanges, and investment partnerships.
He also praised Dominica’s progress in environmental sustainability and post-disaster recovery, describing it as “a model for small island resilience.”
The ceremony reflects Dominica’s expanding international footprint and its ongoing efforts to forge stronger diplomatic and economic ties across Asia.
It also highlights the government’s continued pursuit of partnerships that support innovation, cultural understanding, and long-term climate adaptation strategies.
