The Dominica Police Force has intensified its commitment to public safety by revitalizing the beat patrol unit in Roseau, reintroducing a more visible and interactive form of community policing in the city. Inspector Claude Weekes, speaking on the matter, praised the leadership behind the initiative. “It is so refreshing, and I want to commend the commissioner and the management team for revamping the beat patrol in Roseau,” he said. The reintroduction of walking patrols has been exceptionally well received by the Dominicans, who have reportedly taken notice of the renewed visibility of officers in the city.
“The public are seeing the police walking. They’re saying that the police are walking,” Weekes noted, pointing to a shift in public sentiment as residents begin to feel reassured by the return of on-foot policing. This renewed presence, he emphasized, is essential in strengthening the connection between the police and the community.
“We continue to see the presence and visibility of the police in the city of Roseau,” Weekes added, signaling a long-term strategy to keep Dominican officers actively engaged with the public in real-time settings.
