Police Release Traffic Guidelines for Inauguration of Dominica-China Hospital

The Dominica Police Force released traffic guidelines for movement during the inauguration of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital. The first phase of the project will be handed over and inaugurated at the Lindo Park grounds in the Goodwill community, with the police providing guidelines for vehicular movement during this period.

Police PRO Inspector Simon Edwards provided that motorists can enter the venue of the ceremony through Federation Drive, and traffic can come from the roundabout at Dupigny Lane to Rose Street. He added vehicles will be allowed to park at the east side of Charles Avenue at the junction from Bowers Lane to the roundabout at Federation Drive.

“Both sides of Federation Drive from the junction of Rose Street to the roundabout will be reserved parking for dignitaries,” Edwards said. “One side parking will be accommodated along the western side of Rose Street from the junction of link road to the Federation Drive. One side parking will be accommodated along Federation Drive from the roundabout to St. Aroment.”

Edwards further revealed that vehicles will be allowed to park alongside the riverside in Roseau and also at given parking points on the road linking Roseau and Goodwill. But there will be no parking at the link road from the junction of Elmshall Road and River Street.  These road restrictions will be in place until the government announces their removal.

Meanwhile, PM Skerrit disclosed that the first phase of the Dominica China Friendship hospital goes a long way to guarantee the delivery of quality healthcare in the country. According to him, quality healthcare services are not static but continually evolving, and that is why the government is coming up with initiatives to establish access to quality care for the Dominican people.

“You have an increase in diseases and illnesses and a high presence of cancer and cancer-related illnesses, hypertension and also diabetes-related illnesses and therefore it is always important to us as citizens to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to eat properly and exercise so that we minimize all risk of being unwell,” Skerrit said.

The prime minister appreciated the Chinese government as well as the Dominican Minister of Health, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, for their immense contribution to ensure the completion of the first phase of the hospital in record time. Skerrit said that with time, the government will name some halls and facilities at the hospital after prominent Dominicans who helped grow the health sector.
