The Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) has elected Olive Strachan as its new president following the organization’s annual general meeting, ushering in a new leadership period for one of Dominica’s main private sector bodies.
Strachan succeeds outgoing president Brenton Hilaire and says she intends to build on the work already carried out by the previous executive while helping strengthen the role of the private sector in national development.
In remarks following her election, Strachan thanked the association’s members for their confidence in her and acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing board and executive leadership.
“I would like to sincerely thank the membership for the confidence they have placed in me,” she stated. “I also wish to acknowledge and thank the outgoing president, Brenton Hilaire, and board of directors for their hard work, commitment, and contribution to continued growth and development of the association.”
Strachan said the DAIC has already established a strong foundation through years of advocacy and business engagement, adding that her administration intends to continue strengthening the organization’s influence within the local business environment.
“As I step into this role, I do so with a deep sense of responsibility, optimism, and commitment to serving the business community and the wider development of Dominica,” she said.
According to Strachan, her professional background in leadership development, human resource management, and organizational transformation has prepared her for the role at a time when Dominican businesses continue facing changing economic conditions, rising operational costs, digital transition pressures, and increasing regional competition.
“Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with global leaders and organizations in the areas of leadership, human resource management, and business transformation,” she explained. “These experiences have prepared me for this important opportunity to serve and support the private sector in Dominica.”
The DAIC remains one of the country’s primary business advocacy organizations, representing companies and entrepreneurs across sectors including tourism, retail, manufacturing, financial services, shipping, agriculture, and construction.
