Henderson Confirms Changes to Cuban Medical Workers Programme

Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy, Vince Henderson, has confirmed that the Government of Dominica will implement adjustments to the Cuban Medical Workers Programme, while maintaining cooperation with the Republic of Cuba.
Addressing Parliament, Henderson stated, “We recognize that we have to make some changes to the program, the Medical Workers Program, and be grateful that the government of Cuba has gracefully agreed to work with us as we seek to meet new requirements for the Cuban health workers.”
He indicated that details would be shared at the appropriate time, adding, “But we are making changes to that program and it will be revealed at the appropriate time.”
Despite the pending adjustments, the Minister emphasized that the primary objective remains the continuity of healthcare services for Dominicans. He said the government is engaging all relevant partners to protect patient care, noting, “We are working with all our partners to ensure the best outcome for Dominicans, because we must ensure that we always have health care services for Dominican people.”
Henderson also reaffirmed Dominica’s appreciation for Cuba’s longstanding support to the public health system, describing the bilateral relationship as one rooted in solidarity and sustained cooperation over more than three decades.
