The Dominica Electricity Services Ltd (DOMLEC) has deployed a five-member crew to assist in recovery efforts in Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa. The team travelled under the CARILEC Disaster Assistance Program (CDAP), which facilitates cooperation among regional utilities during major natural disasters.
General Manager Duane Senak said DOMLEC is proud to stand in solidarity with Jamaica during this difficult time. “Today, November 10th, DOMLEC is happy to announce that a team of five left Dominica and arrived in Jamaica this afternoon to support the restoration efforts of our sister utility, JPS,” he stated. “As we know, Jamaica has been devastated following the passage of Hurricane Melissa, and as part of the Carilec Disaster Assistance Program, DOMLEC committed to supporting the restoration activity over there.”
Senak added that the initiative reflects DOMLEC’s commitment to regional cooperation. “Multiple utilities within the Carilec organization have agreed to provide support, and a number of linesmen will meet over there to collaborate in supporting our sister utility and fast-tracking their restoration process,” he said.
The five-member delegation includes Julie Paul (team leader and supervisor), Earl Matthew, Wilbert Moise, Isaiah Phillip, and Dylan John-Baptist. Senak expressed pride in their professionalism and readiness to represent Dominica abroad, saying it was “something we are very proud of here at DOMLEC, to provide that support to the people of Jamaica.”
The deployment demonstrates the growing strength of Caribbean disaster response cooperation under CARILEC, which promotes mutual aid among member utilities in times of crisis.
