Dominica Opens 2025 Hunting Season Under Strict Rules

Dominica’s hunting Season has officially begun, giving licensed hunters the opportunity to pursue select species while under strict regulations from the Forestry, Wildlife and Parks Division. The season runs from September 23 to December 31, 2025, with the sale and limited export of wildlife permitted between September 24 and January 31, 2026.

According to the Ministry of Environment, hunters are authorized to target only manicou, agouti, and crabs, with limits set at 12 crabs, six agouti, and six manicou per person for export. All other species, including; birds, iguanas, snakes, and the protected Mountain Chicken, remain strictly off limits.

Officials are reminding the public that hunting or freshwater fishing without a valid license is illegal, and anyone found engaging in such activities or exporting wildlife unlawfully faces penalties of up to EC$5,000 per offence.

Licenses and permits can be obtained at the Forestry, Wildlife & Parks Division on Windsor Park Link Road, as well as at the sub-treasury offices in Portsmouth and Marigot. Specific operating hours have been announced to facilitate hunters seeking documentation before heading into the wild.

Authorities stress that the regulations are not only designed to support cultural traditions but also to promote sustainable management of Dominica’s biodiversity. Citizens are being urged to follow the rules closely to help safeguard the island’s delicate ecosystems while still allowing licensed hunters to benefit from the season.

The Division emphasized its commitment to conservation, noting that public cooperation is vital in ensuring resources are used responsibly for the benefit of both present and future generations.
