Pelham John Baptist, the Director of Security at the Dominica Air and Seaports Authority (DASPA), has issued a firm directive to all security officers, urging them to execute their duties with unwavering commitment to international standards, free from fear or favour. This pronouncement followed the successful completion of a two-week screening certificate training program, which saw 67 security officers receive enhanced instruction.
John Baptist stressed these security rules are vital. He stated every individual, himself included, must undergo thorough screening when traversing the port’s airside or when travelling. He clarified that exceptions are solely for state-sanctioned cases. He declared that “no compromise” on these instructions will be tolerated. This strict adherence is crucial for maintaining Dominica’s ports of entry and ensuring compliance with global maritime and aviation security regulations, like the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, which Dominica follows.
Recognizing public feedback regarding perceived inconveniences at seaports and airports, John Baptist acknowledged the need to better educate the public on the rationale behind these essential security measures.
