Chinese Ambassador to Dominica Chu Maoming has encouraged local businesses to explore export opportunities within China’s expanding consumer market, highlighting several Dominican products with strong potential for international demand.
Speaking on trade prospects, the ambassador identified coconut products, rum, and traditional handicrafts as high-value goods that could perform well among Chinese consumers. He noted that China’s large and growing market offers significant opportunities for Caribbean producers seeking to diversify their export base.
“China’s super-large market offers broad prospects for economic and trade cooperation with regional countries, including Dominica,” the ambassador said.
He encouraged Dominican entrepreneurs and government agencies to take advantage of international platforms such as the China International Import Expo, which is held annually and provides direct access to buyers from across China. “We encourage governments and enterprises to participate in this expo… it is an international platform for imports,” he added.
The ambassador explained that demand for authentic Caribbean goods continues to grow, particularly products that reflect cultural identity and quality craftsmanship.
He said strengthening trade ties between Dominica and China could help local businesses increase revenue, expand production, and create new employment opportunities, while also deepening bilateral economic cooperation.
Officials say the push for exports aligns with broader efforts to diversify Dominica’s economy and reduce dependence on traditional markets, particularly as global trade patterns continue to shift.
The ambassador’s remarks are expected to encourage greater participation from Dominican businesses in international trade forums and stimulate interest in developing export-ready products for global markets.
