On May 28, 2025, the Dominica Geothermal Development Company Limited (DGDC Ltd.) proudly hosted a delegation from the Caribbean Canada Leaders Dialogue (CCLD) at Dominica’s geothermal development project site in Laudat. The visit was a key stop on the delegation’s Caribbean tour, which forms part of the CCLD 2025 initiative, an international leadership program fostering collaboration between emerging leaders from Canada and the Caribbean.
The CCLD 2025 program, organised under the Commonwealth’s patronage, emphasises ethical leadership, sustainability, innovation, and inclusive governance. Delegates include professionals from diverse sectors such as energy, environment, law, health, and education. Their presence signals Dominica’s increasing relevance in renewable energy matters across the region.
During the visit, DGDC’s Safeguards Specialist guided the delegation through a comprehensive briefing on the geothermal project’s development, safety measures, and environmental safeguards. Representatives from ORMAT Technologies Inc, the engineering firm leading the plant’s construction, also engaged with the group, providing technical insights and answering questions on geothermal production, grid integration, and Dominica’s long-term energy vision.
The exchange fostered meaningful dialogue on sustainable infrastructure and the region’s clean energy transition. Delegates were particularly interested in the potential for geothermal power to reduce Dominica’s reliance on imported fossil fuels, lower electricity costs, and contribute to climate resilience.
