Business Training Center Secures 5-Year Tertiary License
The Business Training Center Inc. (BTC) has been granted a new five-year institutional license by the Ministry of Education, allowing the institution to operate at the tertiary level and expand its academic and professional offerings.
The approval marks a significant step for BTC, which has previously operated under shorter-term secondary-level licenses. The new designation reflects compliance with national standards and recognises the institution’s growth and evolving role within Dominica’s education sector.
President of the Business Training Center, Lucia Steadman, described the development as a major milestone for the institution, noting that it builds on over two decades of service. “This is a significant advancement for BTC… the first to be issued for a five-year term, reflecting the institution’s 27 years of service and the expanded scope of its academic and professional programs,” she said.
The new license allows BTC to offer higher-level programmes and continue delivering nationally recognized qualifications, while also strengthening its ability to serve students both locally and across the wider Caribbean.
Steadman emphasized that the approval also positions the institution to move forward with local accreditation through the National Accreditation Board, a process that had previously been delayed due to licensing requirements. “Now that we have that in place, we are fully positioned to take that next step,” she explained.
She added that while BTC already holds international accreditation, achieving local accreditation will further enhance credibility and open additional opportunities for graduates within Dominica and the region.
Officials say the five-year license represents both recognition of the institution’s progress and an opportunity to strengthen the quality and accessibility of tertiary education in Dominica, as BTC enters what it describes as a new phase of development.
