Aljai Liverpool Charged with Murder of Kenneth Charles

A 32-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Kenneth Charles, whose body was discovered inside a manhole along the E.O. LeBlanc Highway in Canefield late last month.
Police have identified the accused as Aljai Liverpool, of Checkhall, who was formally charged on Thursday, July 2, in connection with the death of 83-year-old Kenneth Charles of Eighth Street, Canefield. Charles’ body was found inside a manhole on the western side of the E.O. LeBlanc Highway near Miniya’s 7-11 Supermarket on June 27, 2026.
Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police Fixton Henderson, who serves as Police Public Relations Officer, said Liverpool appeared before the Roseau Magistrate’s Court on Friday, July 3, where the charge was read to him.
As murder is an indictable offence under Dominican law, Liverpool was not required to enter a plea during the initial court appearance.
The court ordered that Liverpool be remanded to the Dominica State Prison pending a preliminary inquiry, which has been scheduled for September 24, 2026.
Police have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding Charles’ death, indicating that investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
The discovery of Charles’ body prompted a major police investigation, with detectives working to establish the events leading to his death. Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges or arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues.
