36 Police Recruits Officially Join the Dominica Police Force at Passing Out Parade

The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force officially welcomed 36 new officers to its ranks today, Wednesday, May 21, 2025, during a formal and highly symbolic passing out parade held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. The event marked the successful completion of Recruit Course No. 26, following nearly six months of intensive training.

The graduation ceremony was attended by His Excellency Sylvanie Burton, President of Dominica; Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit; Minister for National Security Rayburn Blackmoore; members of the Cabinet, the judiciary, members of the diplomatic corps, and top police officials, including Acting Chief of Police Lincoln Corbette and Deputy Chief Geoffrey James.

Inspector Lyndon Timothy, Chief Instructor of Recruit Course 26, reported on the course’s comprehensive training program in his address to the new officers. Beginning on December 6, 2024, the recruits were rigorously trained in areas such as criminal law, general policing duties, juvenile justice, traffic procedures, communications, human rights, and use of firearms. Special training in financial crimes and asset recovery was also delivered by regional experts.

Of the 36 new officers, 16 are women, reflecting the force’s growing gender inclusivity. Inspector Timothy praised the group’s commitment, discipline, and endurance, stating that “this batch has demonstrated the physical and mental toughness expected of law enforcement officers in today’s demanding environment.

Pastor Jodie Andrew offered prayers, invoking blessings for courage, fairness, and wisdom as the recruits step into their public service roles. The ceremony featured a parade, inspection by dignitaries, and proud celebrations from family members and friends.

Prime Minister Skerrit encouraged the officers to uphold the principles of justice, service, and community trust in his remarks. “This is not just a job; it is a responsibility that places you at the heart of national development,” he said.

With today’s graduation, the new officers will now be deployed across Dominica’s police districts, strengthening the national force at a time when the country continues to prioritise citizen safety and the rule of law.
