Job Description
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy is seeking a qualified and motivated Chief Whale Reserve Officer to lead the management, protection, and development of Dominica's Sperm Whale Reserve. The successful candidate will oversee conservation initiatives, supervise staff, coordinate stakeholder engagement, and support the sustainable development of the country's Blue and Green Economy.
Responsibility
- Manage the operations of the Sperm Whale Reserve.
- Implement reserve management plans and budgets.
- Recruit, train, and supervise reserve staff.
- Prepare reports and technical documentation.
- Provide advice on cetaceans and reserve management.
- Lead stakeholder engagement and public outreach.
- Coordinate monitoring and enforcement activities.
- Develop partnerships, grants, and fundraising initiatives.
Experience and Qualifications
- Experience in marine conservation, protected areas, fisheries, or environmental management.
- Strong knowledge of cetaceans, marine ecosystems, and biodiversity protection.
- Supervisory or project management experience.
- Strong report-writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work with government agencies, communities, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of monitoring, surveillance, and enforcement procedures.
- Ability to support grant writing, partnerships, and fundraising activities.
