Hurricane Tammy (2023)

Hurricane Tammy formed as Tropical Storm Tammy on 18 October 2023, east of the Lesser Antilles, and intensified into a Category 1 hurricane by 20 October, influenced by warm sea surface temperatures. The system advanced toward the Leeward Islands, prompting tropical storm warnings and hurricane watches for Dominica and surrounding territories.
Tammy’s Proximity and Impact in Dominica
Although Tammy did not make direct landfall on Dominica, the island experienced tropical-storm-force winds as Tammy passed to the east. The storm’s center came within approximately 50 miles east of Dominica, resulting in noted brief gusts and heavy rain. By 21 October, warnings were lifted as Tammy turned away from the island.
Across the Leeward Islands, particularly Guadeloupe and Barbuda, Tammy caused moderate rainfall (100–200 mm), minor flooding, and power outages. However, Dominica reported only light impacts such as possible coastal swells and intermittent rain showers.
