D’Leau Gommier

D’Leau Gommier is a quiet forested area situated in the interior of Dominica, within Saint Paul Parish. It lies near the edge of the Central Forest Reserve, serving as a key point for environmental monitoring and forest access. The area is particularly important for its proximity to major watersheds, including the upper reaches of the Layou River and Pagua River, which feed ecosystems across the central and eastern parts of the island.

Forestry Infrastructure and Recovery Efforts

Historically, D’Leau Gommier housed a forest station that supported the work of the Forestry, Wildlife and National Parks Division. After being severely damaged by Hurricane Maria in 2017, the site was targeted for restoration under the Emergency Agricultural Livelihoods and Climate Resilience Project. Upgrades include new office space, ranger accommodations, solar installations, and a water storage system to support forestry and climate resilience efforts.

Conservation and Community Services

Once fully operational, the forest station will support environmental education, biodiversity research, agroforestry training, and climate adaptation outreach. It plays a vital role in protecting Dominica’s upland resources and promoting sustainable land use across the surrounding communities.
