The Northeast Cocoa Producers Cooperative is a vital initiative to nurture the next generation of cocoa producers in Dominica, mainly targeting the youth from the Northeast region. Funded by Australian Aid, this cooperative has embarked on a mission to train young individuals aged 18 to 40 in the art and science of growing high-quality cocoa. This training is not just about agriculture; it encompasses a holistic approach, including land preparation, pod selection, grafting, pruning, pest and disease control, and crucial social and business skills.

The North East Cocoa Producers Cooperative program is meticulously designed, incorporating the Farmer Field School Method—' Learning by Doing.' This hands-on approach is structured around 12 weekly sessions spread over three months, emphasizing not just cocoa cultivation techniques but also instilling a profound understanding of the crop's economic and environmental significance. The initiative has already succeeded, with 13 individuals completing their training and establishing their cocoa plots. This is complemented by establishing a nursery north of the island, signifying a promising start towards Dominica's ambitious goals for its cocoa industry.
