About Archbold Tropical Research and Education Center
Archbold Tropical Research and Education Center, affectionately called Springfield Plantation Estate, is a symbol of progress in education located in the beautiful landscapes of the Commonwealth of Dominica. This non-profit management organization is committed to providing a valuable educational experience for students, researchers, and educators from all around the world. The Springfield Guesthouse, also known as ATREC, is a historic site that dates back to the mid-1800s and has been a hub for research initiatives and study abroad programs since it was donated to Clemson University by philanthropist John D. Archbold in 1989, who co-lead the famous Bredin-Archbold-Smithsonian Biological Survey of Dominica.
