China has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Dominica’s long-term development, with Chinese Ambassador Chu Maoming saying the partnership between the two countries will continue to expand across sectors that directly benefit the Dominican people.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Ambassador Chu said the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) provides a stable foundation for the continued growth of relations between China and Dominica. He noted that despite an evolving international environment, China remains committed to peaceful development and mutually beneficial cooperation with its international partners.
According to the ambassador, the longstanding relationship between the two countries has been built on mutual respect, political trust and shared development objectives. He said these principles will continue to guide cooperation as both nations pursue sustainable economic and social progress.
“Political mutual trust will continue to deepen, guided by mature and well-established theories, lines and principles. The CPC has maintained a strategic resolve in pursuing China’s development. Its foreign policy is characterised by continuity and stability. This provides the foundation for the long-term, steady development of China-Dominica relations,” Chu stated.
The ambassador said China will continue to align its cooperation with Dominica’s national priorities, particularly in agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure and education. He added that future initiatives will also support climate resilience, disaster risk reduction and capacity building as Dominica continues pursuing sustainable development.
“China will continue to understand and support Dominica on issues concerning each other’s core interests and major concerns, and firmly support the Dominican people in exploring a development path that is suited to their own national conditions,” he said.
Chu also highlighted the importance of the China–CELAC Forum, noting that the initiatives announced during last year’s ministerial meeting in Beijing are intended to deepen cooperation between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries while delivering practical benefits for citizens.
He explained that China intends to work closely with Dominica to implement projects that improve livelihoods and strengthen national resilience through investment, technical cooperation and knowledge sharing.
The ambassador said the shared aspirations of both countries have created a solid platform for closer cooperation, allowing development projects to respond to Dominica’s specific needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
He added that China remains prepared to broaden cooperation under its global development, security and civilisation initiatives, while supporting Dominica’s efforts to address climate change, strengthen disaster preparedness and participate more actively in international affairs. According to Chu, the continued partnership is intended to deliver tangible benefits to communities across Dominica while reinforcing the strong diplomatic relationship between the two countries that has been maintained for more than two decades.
