Sherman Boston to Contest Roseau North By-Election as Independent

Roseau City Councillor Sherman Boston has announced that he will contest the upcoming Roseau North by-election as an independent candidate.

Boston, who has served on the Roseau City Council for the past 10 years, said his decision is rooted in a call for independent leadership and a stronger focus on the daily needs of residents across the constituency.

In announcing his candidacy, Boston said gainful employment would be one of his main priorities if elected. He argued that Roseau North Constituency needs leadership that is not tied strictly to party politics, but focused on practical concerns affecting communities.

My people of Roseau North, the beginning of progress is the appreciation of what already exists,” Boston stated.

He said the constituency has another opportunity to make a decision based on principle rather than party loyalty, calling on residents to consider what he described as true independent representation.

Let us stand on principle, not party lines. Let us foster true independence with independent leadership,” he said.

Boston also raised concern about environmental and public health conditions affecting communities in the constituency, particularly the situation linked to the Fond Cole, Stock Farm landfill area.

According to him, residents deserve clean air, clean water and leadership that places the health of families ahead of political considerations.

It is a human right for clean air, clean water, and leadership that puts the health of our families first, and not politics,” he stated.

Boston’s announcement shapes the evolving Roseau North by-election race, which was triggered when former Parliamentary Representative Miriam Blanchard resigned on medical grounds.

The Dominica Labour Party has officially launched Ashma McDougall as its candidate, while the United Workers Party has selected former Roseau North Parliamentary Representative Danny Lugay to contest the seat.

Boston said his campaign will seek to promote unity, community progress and greater attention to the practical needs of residents. He told constituents that he is prepared to stand with them and offer himself as an independent voice in the upcoming contest.
