Dr. Thomson Fontaine Re-Elected UWP Leader as Full Executive Is Announced

The United Workers Party (UWP) has re-elected Dr. Thomson Fontaine as its Political Leader, following a closely contested vote at the party’s recent delegates conference. The results confirm Fontaine’s continued leadership as the party moves into its next phase of political organisation and preparation.

Fontaine secured re-election after polling 83 votes, narrowly defeating challenger Pastor Randy Rodney, who received 75 votes. The outcome reflected strong participation and an engaged membership, with delegates voting across a full slate of executive positions tasked with overseeing organisational management, political strategy, and outreach. The full executive is as follows:

  • Political Leader: Dr. Thomson Fontaine
  • Deputy Political Leader: Ronald Charles
  • President: Claudius Sanford
  • Vice President: Birney Ryan
  • General Secretary: Nicolas George
  • Assistant General Secretary: Walter Greenaway
  • Treasurer: Ken Joseph
  • Assistant Treasurer: Erasmus Laurent
  • Public Relations Officer: Glenroy Cuffy
  • International Secretary: Dr. MacDonald Thomas
  • Trustees: Norris Prevost, Jno-Finn, Vincent Dupuis

In remarks following the announcement, Fontaine emphasized the importance of unity within the party, calling on members to work collectively and focus on strengthening internal structures. He acknowledged the competitiveness of the leadership race and described it as a sign of democratic participation within the organization.

The conference also highlighted renewed interest in party reform and engagement, with delegates calling for expanded grassroots activity, clearer policy positions, and improved communication with supporters at home and abroad. Pastor Randy Rodney, who mounted a strong leadership challenge, did not contest any other executive position following the vote. Party officials noted that his participation reflected broader debate within the UWP and growing involvement by new voices.

With its leadership and executive now confirmed, the United Workers Party is expected to turn attention toward internal consolidation, public outreach, and preparation for future electoral contests, as it seeks to position itself as a viable alternative in Dominica’s political landscape.
