Linton Steps Resigns Amid UWP Tensions, Frustration and Fatigue

Lennox Linton has formally resigned as president of the United Workers’ Party (UWP), submitting his letter on Monday, June 30, 2025. While no official reason has been made public, political watchers suggest his exit reflects more than just a procedural handover; it may mark the wear of long-standing internal battles and personal fatigue.
Though Linton has not severed ties with the party, insiders say the former opposition leader has grown increasingly disheartened by persistent infighting, ideological rifts, and what some describe as a lack of unified purpose. One party member said privately that “Lennox just looked fed up, like he had nothing left to fight with.”
It is believed that the Thomson Fontaine fallout and prolonged disunity among factions strained Linton’s leadership role. Supporters note that after more than a decade in frontline politics, including a high-pressure tenure as Opposition Leader and the 2022 election boycott, the burden had taken a toll.
Some speculate that Linton’s decision also reflects personal priorities, possibly stepping back to reconnect with family or reassess his place in a party he once tried to reshape from within.
Although still an executive member, Linton’s reduced role raises questions about UWP’s direction, its readiness for elections, and whether unity can truly be rebuilt.
