Government MPs Highlight Road Infrastructure Improvements During Parliamentary Debate

During the 5th Meeting of the 2nd Session of the 11th Parliament of Dominica, held on June 24, 2025, several Members of Parliament reported on road improvement works taking place within their constituencies as part of the national infrastructure development strategy.

Hon. Kent Edwards, Member for the La Plaine Constituency, referenced recent works to roads within his constituency, noting improvements that addressed long-standing access issues. He emphasised that constituents in multiple communities had expressed appreciation for the projects already completed and those currently underway.

Hon. Octavia Alfred, Parliamentary Representative for the Castle Bruce Constituency, provided similar remarks, stating that road repairs were ongoing in her constituency. She highlighted that residents had noted the tangible difference these improvements were making, especially in facilitating transportation and movement.

Hon. Cozier Frederick also pointed to road enhancement works within the Kalinago Territory. His comments suggested that community-level upgrades had been implemented in response to local needs, improving safety and accessibility in the area.

Hon. Cassanni Laville, Minister for Public Works and the Digital Economy, provided broader context by noting that various road projects had been executed or were in progress across the island. He acknowledged the challenges that come with managing road infrastructure in a geographically diverse country, but affirmed the government’s continued focus on road maintenance and development.

Although exact funding or technical plans weren’t disclosed, MPs made clear that road infrastructure remains a top government concern. The debate also reaffirmed the government’s intention to address both main and community roads to enhance access and support economic activity.
