Roseau is once again grappling with renewed fears over public safety following a fatal shooting incident that claimed the life of Kimon Emmanuel and left another man hospitalized.
According to official police reports, the shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the busy Washington Block area, a section of Roseau known for its high foot traffic. Eyewitnesses recounted hearing multiple gunshots and seeing emergency responders rushing to the scene. Both victims were transported to the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital, where Emmanuel succumbed to his injuries at approximately 9:06 p.m. The second victim remains hospitalized in stable condition, although his identity has not yet been officially released.
Superintendent of Police Richmond Valentine has confirmed that the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) is treating the case as a homicide and attempted murder. He appealed to the public for cooperation, emphasising the critical role that eyewitnesses and community members can play in solving such cases.
“This incident highlights the urgent need for greater community cooperation with law enforcement,” Valentine stated during a brief press statement.
