Dominica’s “Yes We Care” Program Expands to Serve More Seniors

More of Dominica’s elderly are now receiving vital in-home support, as the government’s Yes We Care program has expanded its services to reach 156 clients, up from 120 in 2024. Now in its 16th year, the program continues to deliver comprehensive care to some of the nation’s most vulnerable citizens.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Dr. Cassandra Williams, affirmed the program’s ongoing impact. “Now in its sixteenth year of uninterrupted service, it is a lifeline for hundreds of elderly, vulnerable, and differently able Dominicans, delivering not only care but dignity,” she said.
The program provides a range of essential services, including bathing, grooming, meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, medication management, and escorted health visits. A team of trained caregivers carries out these tasks, offering consistency and compassion in homes across the Dominica.
Recent government efforts have also enhanced the program’s reach. Beneficiaries received mobility aids such as wheelchairs and walkers, along with free first-time water connections, monthly food and cleaning supplies, gas cylinders, and household essentials like linen, towels, and washing machines. Many homes were renovated and repainted, significantly improving living conditions.
“These interventions uplift not just households, but the spirit of those who reside within them,” Dr. Williams noted, underscoring the social and emotional value of the services provided.
The Yes We Care program remains a cornerstone of Dominica’s social protection system, reflecting a national commitment to dignity, support, and inclusion for all seniors.
