The Dominica Cricket Association (DCA) has formally recommended the construction of a second first-class cricket facility, citing limited access to the Windsor Park Sports Stadium and its impact on player development. The proposal was presented during the pre-budget consultation held on June 19, 2025, at the State House Conference Center.
The DCA noted that Windsor Park’s availability is restricted due to multiple demands. As a result, local players and teams, especially junior and female cricketers, are unable to train and compete consistently. They expressed concern that the absence of an additional first-class venue is affecting the growth and competitiveness of the sport across the island.
According to the association’s representative, a second facility would relieve pressure on Windsor Park and “allow for more cricket to be played at the senior and junior level.” They explained that schools and clubs often struggle to access adequate space for match preparation and training, particularly when the national stadium is booked for other events or undergoing maintenance.
The suggestion included the potential for the facility to be located outside of Roseau, although no site or budget estimates were discussed. The DCA encouraged the government to consider the project as part of its broader national sports development strategy.
The submission was received by the panel of Cabinet ministers present at the consultation, including Minister for Culture, Youth Sports and Community Development Hon. Gretta Roberts, who acknowledged the proposal but did not issue a direct response during the session.
The recommendation is now part of the public record from the consultation and is expected to be reviewed during the Ministry of Finance’s preparations for the 2025–2026 national budget. While no timeline was indicated, the DCA’s remarks reflect a consistent call for expanded infrastructure to support competitive and developmental cricket in Dominica.
