The Sports Division has officially announced the staging of the Primary Schools Independence Athletics Competition, to be held on Wednesday, October 29th, at Benjamin Park in Portsmouth.
Seven districts will be represented: North, Northwest, West Central, Southwest, South, Southeast, and Northeast. The event will begin with an opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m., followed by track and field action starting at 10 a.m.
Sports Officer Godwin Dorsett highlighted that the competition offers an opportunity to showcase Dominica’s young athletic talent, which has been one of the island’s strongest areas of international sporting representation. He called on the public to turn out in support, emphasizing that early encouragement and exposure in athletics have historically helped young Dominican athletes progress into regional and international stages.
The Independence Athletics Championship forms part of the wider calendar of Independence celebrations and has long been a key feature in the development of grassroots sports on the island. Organizers are optimistic about strong participation and spirited competition across all categories.
