Treneese Hamilton

Treneese Hamilton (born June 23, 2003, in Canefield) is a distinguished Dominican track-and-field athlete specializing in shot put and discus throw. Known for holding both national records, Hamilton has competed with notable success at CARIFTA Games, NACAC events, and world championships. Her rise symbolises athletic dedication and national pride.

Treneese grew up in Canefield within a sports-driven family, where her parents excelled in basketball and netball and her cousin Joel Hamilton became her coach. She first showed promise at Massacre Canefield Primary School before developing her athletic skills at Dominica Grammar School. Later, she pursued studies at Dominica State College while advancing in shot put and discus. Hamilton continued her academic journey at Barton Community College and later the University of Alabama, balancing education with record-breaking athletic success.

Athletic Achievements and Records

Hamilton first found international success as a youth, earning a bronze medal in shot put at the 2018 CARIFTA Games and following up with silver and bronze medals in shot put and discus in 2019. She continued her progression with junior accolades at the NACAC U18 Championships and a ninth-place finish at the U20 World Championships.

In 2025, Hamilton made history by winning Dominica’s first-ever gold at the Junior Pan American Games, achieving a remarkable 17.21m in shot put. That same year, representing the University of Alabama, she claimed the Southeastern Conference indoor shot put title, earned All-American honors, and set Alabama’s indoor and outdoor shot put records (18.14m and 17.29m respectively)

Ambassadorship and National Recognition

In recognition of her achievements and role-model status, the Government of Dominica appointed Hamilton as Sports Ambassador of Dominica, effective September 1, 2025. The appointment comes with a housing lot and a Diplomatic Passport of Dominica to support her international representation. Hamilton now travels the world with her country’s endorsement as both athlete and diplomat, embodying the synergy of sport, national development, and cultural diplomacy.
